Equality and Diversity online course
Our online course, which is hosted on Moodle, consists of two Modules:
Module 1 - Equality and Diversity Essentials
This module is aimed at all staff and introduces the basic concepts of equal opportunities and diversity and provides an overview of the main legislation and its implications.
This module is compulsory for new staff and should be completed within the first six months of joining the University. Each department and section has an Equality and Diversity Course Administrator who is responsible for informing new staff in their area of how to access the course, providing them with an enrolment key and ensuring they have completed the course.
Successful completion of Module 1 will become compulsory for all staff in 2014.
Module 2 – Managing Diversity
This module, although not compulsory, is recommended for all managers and supervisors and looks at how you can comply with legislation and manage diverse teams effectively.
Note to all Managers/HODs/HOSs
Completion of Module 1 of this course usually takes between 90 minutes and two hours and staff should be given the time to complete this whilst at work. Equality and Diversity can provide face-to-face training for staff who do not have regular access to a computer at work. Please contact Karen Stephenson, Equality and Diversity Assistant (email kasteph@essex.ac.uk, ext 3507) to arrange this for staff in your area if required.
Please also encourage staff in your area who have supervisory or management responsibilties to complete Module 2 of this course.
