Equality Policy and Strategy 2011-14

In July 2011 the University Council approved the University's first single Equality Policy and Strategy (.docx).Previously we had separate schemes for disability and gender, a policy statement, code of practice and action plan on the promotion of race equality and policy statements and codes of practice for religion and belief and sexual orientation and gender identity. The aim of our single policy is to provide a holistic framework that will help us to fulfil both our legal obligations and core values as stated in our Vision 2009-13.

Section 4 of the Policy contains the Action Plan and Key Performance Indicators, within which are a number of equality objectives. The objectives were informed by evidence from a range of sources including quantitative and qualitative information, feedback from staff and students and consultation with appropriate equality experts.

Work on the action plan is continuous and, as such, this is a 'live' document. Progress against each objective is monitored on an ongoing basis and its relevance to the aims of the general equality duty is noted, together with which of the protected characteristics it relates to.
