Training

The Learning Technology Team offers training courses for staff in the use of learning technologies. If you are interested in attending any of the training sessions listed below, please visit http://www2.essex.ac.uk/iss/Training/coursedetailsnew.asp. We do need to know who you are beforehand! Please note also that sessions will only run if there are at least 5 attendees.

Introduction to Moodle

This course introduces you to Moodle as both a student and a teacher. You will be given your own test Moodle course for use during the training course and in the future.

By the end of the course you should be able to:

  • Decide whether Moodle is the right tool to support your teaching;
  • Navigate around the Introductory Moodle Training course and your own practice course;
  • Create a basic course in Moodle, including how to organise your course, add your own course material, add activities, and keep track of your students’ activity.

Introduction to Personal Response Systems (PRS)

This hands-on course introduces you to using PRS in the classroom as both a student and a teacher. This course supports teaching staff who are planning to loan the PRS equipment from Audiovisual and Media Services (AVMS).

By the end of the course you should be able to:

  • Decide whether PRS is the right tool to support your teaching;
  • Configure the defaults for an anonymous, open PRS class;
  • Author questions for a PRS lesson (using PowerPoint);
  • Deliver a PRS lecture;
  • Support your students in using PRS;
  • Review and evaluate PRS sessions.

Advanced PRS Training

This course will introduce you to more advanced ways of using PRS. This will include using class rosters, running sessions in 'known mode' and how to use the handsets in 'homework mode'. Please note: it is strongly recommended that you have completed the 'Introduction to PRS' course before registering for this one.

Introduction to Perception (On-line Assessments and Surveys)

This workshop style course will teach you how to get started with Perception. The course will cover all the basics, including:

  • Completing a Perception assessment as a student
