Online Learning and SENDA

Summary

The Student Support Office receives feedback from students on learning and teaching resources at the University. One student wrote recently:

'There are many ways that online resources help me. For example because I have memory loss so it is invaluable to receive lots of handouts to fill in the gaps in my knowledge so it is great to be able to download handouts and other resources from the course materials repository online. It is a great shame that hardly any of my teachers use this resource regularly, some do not use it at all and all they have on there is the course description which is no use to anyone really. I also love to be able to renew my library books over the internet so that when all I have to do is renew a book, I do not have to use up precious time coming onto campus'.

Summary:

  • There is a wide-range of support available at the University to help with the development of accessible online learning materials (see the Contacts page);
  • You should make 'reasonable adjustments' to existing course materials, providing materials in alternative formats where necessary (see Accessibility page);
  • Designing for accessibility is good practice - an accessible site benefits all students.
