The Summer School will take place
at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana,
in Bezigrad, which is on the north side of Ljubljana.
Downtown Ljubljana is very easy to reach; ten minute
bus journey or twenty-five minute walk.
The city: Ljubljana,
as the capital of Slovenia lies in a basin between
the Karst and the Alps. Here you will also be able
to enjoy the architecture, its museums, archaeological
sites, monuments, many theatres and one of the oldest
philharmonic orchestras in the world. Ljubljana offers
a wide variety of cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants.
Relief from the hustle and bustle of life in the capital
can be found in the many parks and woodland areas
which in some places extend almost right into the
city centre.
Currency: The Euro replaced the Slovenian tolar as the
country’s national currency in January 2007.
Local transport: The most efficient public transport in Ljubljana is the city bus.
The fare, which is standard irrespective of the distance travelled, is paid using
a token or cash paid to the driver. Keep in mind that buying tokens at news and
tobacco stands is cheaper than paying cash on the bus.
Shops working hours:
Weekdays: 08.00 to 19.00 (some are open to 21.00)
Saturdays: 08.00 to 19.00 (some are open to 21.00)
Sundays and holidays: on duty pharmacies, small markets and some private
shops.
Post Office: Mon–Fri 07.00 to 19.00 and Saturdays 07.00 to 13.00. The post
office at the central train station is also open at night.
Eating out: The influences of the East and West, North and South have mingled
in Slovenia, a phenomenon reflected in Slovenia’s traditional dishes. The
city of Ljubljana offers a great variety of cuisine and prices. Most restaurants
serve food until 11p.m, and some carry on until early in the morning. Tips are
not included in the price of a meal.
Entertainment and culture: Throughout Ljubljana, there are twelve cinemas,
fifteen museums, twenty-five galleries and collections and seven major theatres.

Climate: The climate in Ljubljana is Central European, but is also subject to the
influences of warm air from the Adriatic and cold air from the Alps. The average
daytime temperature in the summer is around 30 degrees celsius.
Drinking water: The water is safe and drinkable across the country.
Electricity: The current is 220V, 50Hz.
