Gretl

Gretl stands for Gnu Regression, Econometrics and Time-series Library

Gretl is a user-friendly application that can perform most econometrics estimations and reads files in formats used by many other packages, including Stata.

The special advantage of Gretl is that it is free software - it can be downloaded from the internet on to your PC.

Full information and instructions for downloading appear on the Gretl website. You will also find Gretl installed in the University's PC Labs.

Beware: Gretl will not read data files saved with Stata 10. If you use Stata 10, be sure to use the command saveold to save the data in memory. Then you will be able to import the data into Gretl. You will find Stata 10 in the PC Labs.
