Prospective students
Undergraduates
All
our undergraduate courses give you a choice over the topics you study.
Whether you have studied aspects of economics before, you will get a thorough
introduction to all aspects of economics and mathematics, including macro- and
micro-economics, and introduces you to quantitative research methods.
You will be taught, predominantly, through large lectures that are supported
by small group sessions or seminars that explore issues covered in the lecture
in much greater detail. Assignments or essays have to be submitted regularly for
each course and is an important dimension of teaching, learning and assessment.
There are also opportunities to combine your study in economics with one of
the foreign languages offered by our Department of Language and Linguistics,
including French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
Frequently Asked Questions
We have prepared a number of
frequently asked questions that may help answer some of your questions.
Study abroad
Everyone has the opportunity to spend some time
studying abroad, normally in your third year,
and all our courses include a four-year option to enable you to do this. If it is something you
would like to do we can help you select the most appropriate destination.
Careers and skills
Our courses equip you with a
range of skills that make you
highly-prized by employers in a variety of professions.
Quantitative analysis software
All our courses give you quantitative methods training. As Essex we use Stata,
a powerful software application for statistics and applied economics, which is
available in all the computer labs across the University. We offer online advice
and guidance for using
Stata and the various other pieces of useful software,
