Postgraduate information - taught schemes
Entry requirements
In order to gain admission to an MSc programme, you should have a good
honours degree in economics, or closely related discipline. For UK universities
this means you should have at least an upper-second class (2.1) degree that
includes a substantial proportion of economics. If you come from outside the UK,
your qualifications should be of an equivalent standard - hence you should
include enough detail in your application to enable the selectors to assess your
qualifications.
A sound basic knowledge of mathematics and statistics is also normally
required. If you are offered admission but lack this knowledge, you will be
expected to attend the pre-sessional mathematics and statistics
course held each September.
If your background in economics is insufficient for admission to an MSc
programme, you may be offered admission to study for a Graduate Diploma. Then,
if you successfully complete the diploma, you can automatically proceed to an
MSc in the following year.
Lastly, applicants whose native language is not English will be required to
provide evidence of
proficiency in
English.
