Postgraduate taught

As one of the UK's leading economics departments, Essex is an excellent choice for postgraduate study.

We offer nine MSc courses and two Graduate Diplomas for you to choose from.

Each September we organise a mathematics/statistics course for incoming MSc students and students admitted to the first year of the 4-year doctoral programme, which will provide you with basic mathematical and statistical knowledge that's needed for our MSc courses.

The University offers a number of funding opportunities to postgraduate students, which you may be eligible to apply for. The scholarship finder makes it easy to see what funding is available to you.

ESRC studentships availableDoctoral Training Centre

The Department plays a key role in the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Doctoral Training Centre, which offers 16 studentships worth up to £18,252 for talented Home/EU postgraduate students. A number of our courses are accredited pathways and eligible for ESRC funding through to doctoral research.

Our three year programme (+3) is available to those who have already completed a programme of research training.

Our four year programme (1+3) comprises of one year's research training, at masters level, linked to a three year PhD for those students taking:

The simplest way to apply is online using the online application form. You will need to send all your documentation to support your application before we can consider your application. Once you have received an offer you can then apply for funding.
