Visiting, non-degree students
Information for prospective students
The Department of Economics welcomes Study Abroad
and other occasional students.
Such students visit for a year, or part of a year,
and do not register for University of Essex degrees.
If you are an international student who wishes, instead,
to obtain a degree from the University, please visit the
web page for
prospective undergraduates,
prospective postgraduates, or
research students.
Pattern of Studies
Study Abroad students normally come to the University
for one of:
- Academic year: early October to late June
- Autumn term: early October to mid December
- Spring & Summer terms: mid January to late June
All undergraduate economics modules are open to Study Abroad students if the pre-requisites equivalent to those at
Essex are judged to have been met.
Postgraduate modules are not open to Study Abroad students.
(Visiting postgraduates should contact the Director of Graduate
Studies at:
pgecon (non Essex users should add @essex.ac.uk to create a full email address).
Teaching and assessment are exactly the same as for students
registered for University of Essex degrees.
Where necessary (because the student is not present for the whole
of the academic year), special assessment arrangements are made.
(Special assessment arrangements are approved by the University's
Study Abroad Office
in consultation with the Director of Undergraduate Studies in Economics.)
Modules for Study Abroad Students
Study Abroad students are welcome to enrol for any of the
economics modules listed in
the
module directory.
Contacts
All Study Abroad students must apply via the
University Study Abroad Office,
not directly to the Department of Economics.
The Study Abroad Office handles all the administrative matters,
e.g. application forms, tuition fees, accommodation.
You are welcome to contact the Department of Economics about
academic matters, e.g. which courses are appropriate,
the courses that are on offer, the arrangements for assessment.
For academic enquiries please e-mail:

or contact us by post or fax.
