Information for Prospective Students

English Language Requirements

All entrants who are non-native speakers of English must provide evidence that they can understand and express themselves in written and spoken English at a sufficiently high standard.

The normal requirements for admission to an undergraduate Economics degree schemes are as follows:

  • IELTS (Academic version of the International English Language Testing Service): at least 6.0 overall.
  • CPE (Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English): grade A, B, or C.
  • TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language):
    • Paper based version: at least 540
    • Internet based version: at least 76.

The normal requirement for postgraduate admissions are:

  • IELTS (Academic version of the International English Language Testing Service): at least 6.5 overall.
  • TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language):
    • Paper based version: at least 570
    • Internet based version: at least 88.

 

Other qualifications may be accepted - contact the director of graduate studies (Diploma, MSc, MPhil and PhD schemes) or the director of undergraduate studies (BA, BSc schemes).
