What can I do with my degree?

An economics degree opens up the choice of an exceptionally wide variety of careers. A career plan will help you in building meaningful work experience that enhances your career prospects. Advisors at the Careers Centre are available to help you formulate your plan. A brief description of possible career paths, including a link providing more information on career advice, is available here:

You may also consider moving on to a post-graduate degree programme. An undergraduate degree in economics may serve as an entry qualification into a variety of post-graduate programmes, not only in economics. A post-graduate degree can be used to hone the skills obtained at the undergraduate level, specialise in a particular field or open career paths more readily accessible with an advanced degree.

Our graduates move on to post-graduate programmes covering the gamut of specialisations, at Essex and elsewhere. Here at Essex we offer a range of post-graduate degrees; information on economics courses is provided below.

Seminars are held during the year where work and study paths are discussed by recent graduates to give you relevant advice on your own future plans. Some seminars are organised through the Economics Society; further briefing sessions are available through the Careers Centre.
