Integrated PhD
What you need to know:
The Essex Business School is offering the Integrated PhD in the areas of
Accounting, Finance or Management.
It is primarily designed for students wishing to undertake doctoral studies
but who have limited or no research training. Accounting and Management
students undertake a Masters by Research (MRes) during the first year of the
Integrated PhD. Finance students undertake a structured programme.
The programme aims to develop knowledge and understanding of:
- General research skills, including both quantitative and qualitative
approaches;
- different theoretical stances which underpin positive and interpretive
approaches to research;
- design of a research proposal including construction of research
questions and or hypotheses;
- management of a research programme including data management;
- rigorous training in mathematics, statistics and econometrics (wherever
these skills are needed most).
Applicants are expected to have already obtained a first degree in
accounting, finance, business or a related subject. You will have obtained a
Masters once you've successfully completed your first year.
