Economic
and Social Research Council (ESRC) funding opportunities at the University of
Essex
The University of Essex is the UK's leading academic institution for research
in the social sciences, with the Department of Government and Department of
Sociology both ranked first nationally following the last Research Assessment
Exercise, Essex Business School ranked second, the Department of Economics
ranked third and the Department of Language and Linguistics ranked fourth.
The University can offer ESRC 1+3 funding for a large number of its one-year
postgraduate courses which then continue into three years of PhD study. Please
go to the
ESRC webpages for further information on funding.
Studentships available 2011-12
The ESRC announced changes to the way it will support postgraduate training
in the social sciences from 2011 onwards. The new Postgraduate Training
Framework will create a national network of institutional or consortia level
Doctoral Training Centres (DTC) and Doctoral Training Units (DTU) providing the
very best training provision. As a leading research institution in the Social
Sciences, the University of Essex has sought accreditation through the new
Postgraduate Training Framework. The ESRC will make final decisions on
accreditation shortly. In the meantime institutions that are currently
recognised to hold ESRC studentships will retain this status until final
decisions are announced.
