We respond to evolving business needs and have developed a number of new courses for 2013 entry including
MSc Work, Organisation and Society and MSc Management.
Essex Business School
Essex Business School has a distinctive approach to the study of business and
management subjects, as can be seen from the wide range of
courses
available and the social scientific focus of much of our work. We have a
national and international reputation for theoretical and empirical research in
accounting, entrepreneurship, finance and management.
Our international reputation for research excellence is evidenced by members'
publication output, esteem, and other scholarly indicators. In the
2008 RAE, Essex
Business School was ranked 2nd overall in the UK in Accounting and Finance
subject area. We achieved a 5 rating in the previous 2001 RAE. In 2008 the
number of staff submitted to the RAE at 30.5ftes was nearly double the number of
research active staff in 2001. This growth in staff has been accompanied by a
shift of focus from primarily accounting-based research to a spread across the
four fields of academic activity in accounting, entrepreneurship, finance and
management.
There are currently around 300 students (both full-time and
part-time) registered on our
taught
postgraduate courses at our two campuses in Colchester and Southend. All
students receive instruction in research methodology and research methods, and
take advanced modules in their area of specialisation. Those who successfully
complete a taught Masters degree are encouraged to consider proceeding to a
research degree in the School's thriving
PhD programme.
