University of Essex

Centre for Asian Financial Studies (CAFS)

About the Centre

Asia is expanding fast and Asian financial markets are likely to play a more central role in the coming years. Although many acknowledge the importance of these developments, very few research centres have been established outside Asia to facilitate the dialogue between Asian and non-Asian academics in the field of finance.

The Centre for Asian Financial Studies (CAFS), established by Essex Business School in 2011, aims to create a venue for intellectual interaction among academics, and between academics and practitioners, on topical issues related to i) Asian financial markets and ii) their interaction with European and North American markets.

The Centre's activities focus on:

  • fostering collaboration with academics from Asian universities and established Asian institutions
  • organising academic conferences and seminars on issues related to Asian financial markets or on relevant topics in cooperation with partner Centres in Asia
  • providing educational support on relevant themes linked to Asian financial markets
