2011 Colchester Business Awards
Patrick Hitchen and Denise Sherer presenting to Business Woman of the Year winner Natalie Emmerson, Primary Care UK at the
Colchester Business Awards held at Charter Hall, Colchester 25th November 2011.
Essex Business School (EBS) had a strong presence at the 2011 Colchester
Business Awards this month and the evening was a great opportunity for staff to
meet some of the inspiring finalists.
Patrick Hitchen is senior lecturer in management at EBS and also delivers
Business and Management Training Centre (BMTC) courses to individuals, business
and organisations in the region within EBS. Denise Sherer, manager of BMTC, has
worked at the University since 1992 and has been involved with BMTC since its
inception in 2003.
Denise and Patrick were delighted to be judging the Businesswoman of the Year
and believe women have a big part to play in business today.
Denise says ‘We are delighted to have selected Natalie Emmerson as the winner of
Business Woman of the Year 2011. She is truly an inspiration to us all,
starting Primary Care UK in 2000 with very little capital but with a belief and
passion that caring should “make a difference” and a determination to succeed in
business.
Whilst working in Learning Disability Services she became increasingly
frustrated at not being able to find the appropriate support to enable
vulnerable young people achieve an independent lifestyle. She thought that it
must be possible to create the right team of carers to support those in need to
do some of the day to day activities that we all take for granted and from that
vision together with her colleague Michelle Duggen Primary Care UK was born.
Natalie has built up a sizeable business employing over 100 staff and clearly
has high expectations of them, leading by example. She ensures that her team
shares the same culture and values and she is very much a motivational leader.
Training for both herself and her staff is an important aspect of the business
and something she actively encourages.
As the driving force behind Primary Care UK, Natalie is able to combine her
passion for delivering high quality care with a successful business that has
gone from strength to strength. This is an exceptional achievement and it is
fitting that she is the Business Woman of the Year 2011.
As well as the Category Sponsorship, EBS was proud to be involved as Corporate
Sponsors, helping to shape the future of both local and national businesses.
Essex Business School is a centre of expertise for business consultancy,
training and executive education including part-time and Modular MBA programmes.
By supporting this event we are given the opportunity to meet some inspiring
local business leaders and further develop our links with local business
networks.
