Business School helped them achieve career success.
Miks Deimantovis - Graduate Support Engineer at Access
BSc Business Management (2015)
“My time at Essex taught me to think critically and challenge assumptions. I
learnt a lot about organisational behaviour and social dynamics and was able to
secure a position as a graduate support engineer at Access Group, one of the
largest corporate software development companies in the UK. I work a lot with
accounting software, so the skills gained from my degree, and when I was
Treasurer of a University society, have been invaluable.”
Alina Jipa - Operations Manager – Acquisitions at Hiscox
BSc Marketing and Human Resources Management (2013)
“I loved my time at the University of Essex. I liked being able to choose
from a range of optional modules and the fact that we were assessed in different
ways – not just by essays and reports; the presentations and group work
exercises helped to develop my team building skills.
“My course has made me more customer focused and gave me a broad knowledge of
accounting, finance, marketing and HR. Terms like KPIs, SWOT analysis and
business strategy are now things I use almost every day.”
Irene Efiannayi - Cummins
BSc Accounting and Finance
“Gaining a finance placement at a global company like Cummins has
significantly increased my understanding about my degree.
I’ve also become more confident and have a better understanding what
employers are looking for in graduates.”
Rhys Stevenson - Founder of Global Metal Apocalypse
BSc in Business Management
“I took modules in International Business Management, Marketing Management
and Operations Management, which all allowed me to indulge in my music passions
within a business context. I was able to explore how metal bands use
merchandising and product placement not only to promote their music, but to
better understand and serve their fans”.
Joanne Price - Corporate Finance Associate Director at
Grant Thornton UK LLP
BA Accounting (2004)
“I graduated from Essex Business School in 2004 and joined the PwC graduate
scheme as an Audit Executive. My accounting degree not only gave me the skills
needed to pass my ICAEW exams, but the broad range of modules gave me the
flexibility and confidence to move into advisory and corporate finance after
qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. Over the last 10 years I’ve managed a
mixture of restructuring, insolvency and corporate finance projects and have
progressed to Corporate Finance Associate Director at Grant Thornton UK LLP.
“I loved the Colchester Campus; some of my fondest memories are of sitting
with friends in the Squares, evening meals in The Towers and drinks in the SU.
Both the social experiences and the skills gained from my degree have got me
where I am today.”
Alina Skuba – International Financial Analyst at First Data
MSc Banking and Finance and BSc Banking and Finance (2013)
“I work as an International Financial Analyst at First Data Corporation,
where I look after financial reporting and build metrics that provide commercial
insight into decision making."
Michaela Peicheva - Head of Operations at WeFarm
MSc International Marketing and Entrepreneurship (2016)
“My time at Essex developed both my professional and personal capabilities. I
gained valuable work experience and business connections from all over the
world, as well as an amazing social life. After an internship with social
enterprise WeFarm, I was offered a full-time position and the chance to join a
vibrant start-up environment. WeFarm is ‘the internet for people with no
internet’ – a peer to peer knowledge sharing platform for small-scale farmers in
rural communities in Africa and Latin America.”
Isha - MSc in Finance and Investment
