Essex Business School Executive Fellows
Apart from the School's Advisory Board, the Essex Business School Executive Fellows are senior
practitioners from the commercial, public and voluntary sectors who are closely
associated with the School. They contribute to curriculum development and
teaching delivery within the School and provide the link to an extended network
of industry practitioners.

Dr Carlo Acerbi
Executive Director, MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital
Dr Carlo Acerbi is Executive
Director of MSCI and a leading expert on risk
modelling, with significant academic
publications in this area to his credit.
MSCI is a significant
provider of investment decision support tools
and Carlo leads its development of liquidity
risk measures, an important area of applied and
theoretical research post the credit crisis.
Before MSCI, Carlo led a risk
management department in investment bank, Banca
Intesa, in Milan, and the financial engineering
team at Abaxbank, a boutique Italian investment
bank. He has also worked at McKinsey & Co. as a
senior expert in its risk practice.
Combining a commercial career
with an academic background, he has taught
Advanced Derivatives at Luigi Bocconi University
in Milan and is currently a member of the
editorial board of the Journal of Risk.
With a PhD in theoretical
physics Carlo regularly contributes to the
Business School's postgraduate courses, gives
expert advice on the changes in financial
regulation which informs the curriculum of the
School's risk management course and collaborates
on EBS research into liquidity risk.
Area Director for Southeast Asia, Global Safety and Security at Marriott International
Drawing on his extensive experience as Director of Safety and Security for all of
Southeast Asian Marriott hotels, Danny offers a wealth of expertise on managing operations
and change due to natural disasters, systems failures and terrorist attacks.
his MBA from Georgetown University, USA, and a BSc from Said Business School, Oxford. He
is currently pursuing his PhD with the University of Essex. He originally trained in the
Army within Singapore Special forces, and used his training to advise and train numerous
law enforcement agencies and military tactical units around the world with Britam Defence.
He then went on to provide operational intelligence to Fortune 500 and Government clients.
He is a Certified Business Continuity Practitioner, Certified Professional Risk Manager,
Certified Anti-Terrorism Specialist and accessor with the International Maritime organization.
In his free time, Danny runs his micro-social initiative organisation called "Making a Difference".
HR Director, Damco
Stuart is currently HR Director of Damco UK & Ireland, one of the worldâ€™s
leading third party logistics providers specialising in customised freight forwarding
and supply chain solutions and part of the A.P Moller-Maersk Group. Damco has 9,500
professionals in 90 countries around the world and works closely with clients such
as Wal Mart and Nike. Under Stuartâ€™s direction in early 2011 the company won a major
industry award for its staff development programme.
Stuart joined the A.P Moller-Maersk Group in 1997 as a member of the Maersk
International Shipping Education Programme â€“ a global graduate management programme
having attained his degree from Strathclyde University in Naval Architecture and
Offshore Engineering. Throughout his career he has held a variety of positions
within the A.P Moller-Maersk Group mainly in Maersk Line the Container Shipping arm
of the Group. These roles have included commercial, operational, and process management
positions. In his current role within Damco he is involved in the development and
execution of Talent Development programmes aimed at different levels within the business.
Head of Compliance, Global Banking, HSBC
Mark joined HSBC in 1997 from
Nat West and is now Head of Compliance, Global
Banking. He leads the team who have compliance
responsibility for mergers and acquisitions,
corporate and institutional banking, and project
and export finance products. In addition he
takes prime responsibility for law and
regulations relating to fiduciary
responsibilities and conflicts of management for
the GB division of HSBC
Mark has a wealth of
experience in banking and finance gained over
the last 20 years, begun when he worked for a
short while trading US Equities for the Royal
Bank of Canada. He then moved to the UK branch
of a firm of US brokers before joining NatWest
Bank where, as an associate director compliance,
he was responsible for: advising on takeover
panel, UK listing and FSA rules; negotiating
terms of engagement with clients and their
advisers; and drafting operating procedures and
technical guidance notes for corporate finance.
Mark has a degree in law from
the University of Essex and in his spare time
is the chairman of a children's charity which
runs orphanages across Europe, Africa and Latin
Angelo De Pol,
Director Strategic Risk Management, Credit
Suisse Securities (London)
Angelo De Pol has worked in
investment banking in London since 1996 with
leading institutions of the stature of Bank of
America, Deutsche Bank, HSBC and currently
A specialist in the area of
derivatives risk management, he has developed a
broad experience across a number of areas most
notably convertible bonds, interest rate and fx
products, hybrid derivatives, fund linked
products, counterparty credit risk and more
recently emerging markets.
As a director in Credit
Suisse Securities' market risk management group
he currently has responsibility for emerging
markets group and foreign exchange globally.
A member of the Chartered
Institute of Management Accountants, he holds a
BA in Applied Mathematics.
Dr Paula Haynes,
Head of Regulatory Governance, Market Risk Management at Deutsche Bank
Paula has 15 years traded markets experience and is currently head of Regulatory
Governance, Market Risk Management at Deutsche Bank.
Prior to this she was Principal Advisor at the international accounting firm KPMG,
focusing on market and counterparty risk for banks and asset managers. Paula was also
a risk specialist at the Financial Services Authority and advised on all aspects of
traded risk and valuation during the volatile year of 2008.
Paula has also been an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs International, specialising
in prime brokerage of equity and credit products to hedge fund clients. Before this
she was a Senior Structurer at HSBC, responsible for the origination and execution of
ABS and structured credit products, and the Deputy Head of Risk Management at HSBC Securities.
With a PhD in Space Physics from Imperial College Paula regularly contributes to the
Business Schoolâ€™s postgraduate course, Industry Expert Lectures in Finance. She also
gives expert advice on recent changes in financial regulation and various impacts on
traded markets and counterparty risk management.
CEO of MyDuc Ceramics, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Albert has extensive practical experience in how to manage businesses in a sustainable way.
He did his MA in Education and Human Resources Development at George Washington University,
USA. He holds a number of directorships in companies in SE Asia, including that of Chairman
and Director of Mekong Building Materials Holdings Company. He has led, designed and taught
in many in-house training programs. These include a manufacturing management programme,
communications, re-engineering, negotiation, business strategy, visioning, team building
and learning organization, training locally, regionally and in the USA.
He is a certified
assessor for General Electric's Assessment Center. He lectures at the National University
of Vietnam in HCMC.
He has trained voluntary groups and small and medium size companies in
group work, group dynamics and leadership skills in Singapore and Malaysia. He is also a

Assistant Director of the Economic Advisory, Ernst & Young LLP
Katherine has over 15 years experience in the financial world and is currently
Assistant Director in the Economic Advisory Group at Ernst & Young where she specialises
in economic strengthening in developing countries.
From 1997-2010, Katherine was Managing Consultant at Maxwell Stamp, one of the worldâ€™s
leading international economics consultancies. During this time she worked with governments
to increase their effectiveness in offering services to their populations. She has worked
with governments in more than 30 countries from Afghanistan through to Zambia.
She studied economics at the University of Dublin and then completed her PhD at the
University of Manchester, where she was a Fellow at the Manchester Business School 1993-1997.

Following a degree in
Environmental Sciences, Marcelle pursued a 10
year advertising career before changing
direction to complete an MBA at INSEAD. She
then spent ten years in a variety of senior
marketing positions with companies including
American Express, Heineken and Inter-Continental
In 1996 she co-founded
Holiday-Rentals.com, which became Europe's
leading site for privately owned holiday homes,
which was subsequently sold to Homeaway Inc. in
Three years later she
founded, and has since become the Chief
Executive of, social enterprise Localgiving.com.
The organisation gives small local charities
their own web pages and the ability to receive
online donations. Uniquely it includes charities
that are too small to be registered with the
Charity Commission, and allows people to find
and support charities in their area which
address the issues and the beneficiaries they

Resources Director, Selfridges
Maria has a vast amount of
experience in HR, having worked at senior
manager level in Marks & Spencer and PrÃªt a
Manger before joining Selfridges.
Maria also used to run her own HR
She has a degree in Government from the
University of Essex and is a Fellow of the
Institute of Personnel and Development and has
an Advanced Diploma in coaching.
