Management Group

Heather Hopfl - Head of Management Group

The Management Group has seen a rapid expansion in recent years and now comprises 20 members of staff. Members of the group contribute to a wide range of programmes in the Essex Business School reflecting the group's diverse research interests and expertise.  The group has developed a strong, critical, research ethos with various members involved in interdisciplinary collaborations across the Social Sciences and Humanities, working both with colleagues at the University of Essex and further afield.

See A-Z list for information on our academic staff and research interests.

Staff are publishing in major management journals (Organization Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Human Relations, Organization, etc.) and their work also appears in journals of related disciplines (Sociology, Sociological Review, Capital & Class, etc.).  They have been successful in securing research grants from a variety of national (e.g. ESRC, Leverhulme Trust, British Academy) and international (e.g. Haniel Stiftung) funding bodies over the past few years. The Group is also home to the 'International Network of Visual Studies in Organizations' (www.in-visio.org)  which is currently receiving funding from the prestigious ESRC 'Researcher Development Initiative' scheme.

The group runs four distinct postgraduate programmes: the MA in Management Studies, the MSc in International Management, the MSc in Management Psychology and the MSc in Marketing, Management and Society. The group is also a major contributor to the newly launched MBA programme and a range of undergraduate BA and BSc courses in Business Management.

Research activities are managed through the Essex Management Centre. Visit the Centre website to find further information and a list of upcoming events.
