Two exciting campuses. Two superb learning environments. One business
Whether you choose to study at Essex Business School in
Colchester or Southend-on-Sea, you
experience cutting-edge facilities and join a collaborative, supportive and
welcoming community of world-class academics and forward-thinking students. Both
of our campuses are within easy reach of London and international airports.
We don’t just talk sustainability and ethical business, we live it. Our
Colchester home is the UK's first zero carbon business school building and its
design reflects our commitment to responsible business practice in both our
teaching and research.
Our stunning winter garden and Eden-like dome gives the building its own
micro-climate and our rainwater pond recycles water for use in our plumbing.
More than one tonne of carbon is saved per day through the building’s energy
efficient design and low carbon technologies.
Spread over 5500 sq m, the building features:
- Bloomberg Financial Market Lab - much more than a virtual trading floor;
gain access to Bloomberg business data, information and analytics used by
accountants, managers and marketers across the globe
- dedicated Student Services Team and enquiry desk
- study pods and innovation booths for group-working
- Bonds café with adjacent sun terrace
- a postgraduate study area, providing IT access and quiet space for research
students to work
- a dedicated MBA study area
You also benefit from a range of
University facilities, such as the
Students' Union Creative Studios in the
Silberrad Student Centre, with its collection of Apple and Adobe products
mirroring the environment found in many top creative agencies. The Albert Sloman
Library provides a quiet working environment, overlooking lakes and parkland.
Location and accommodation
Our Colchester home is located in the green surroundings of Wivenhoe Park,
providing a quiet place to study in a dynamic campus environment. We're located
Knowledge Gateway, a research park providing a hub for local and regional
businesses to engage and discuss knowledge transfer projects with our students
and academics. The site features the Parkside Office Village, offering the
potential for student placements, internships and networking.
Our building is close by to a range of student
accommodation, such as the
North Towers, The
Meadows, The Houses
and The Quays, with
prices starting from £88.20 per week.
Single gender flats are also available. Bus and cycle routes to Colchester
town centre and train station run direct from the campus, with London just over
an hour away by train.
Previously the Roman capital of Britain,
Colchester is the UK’s oldest recorded town and is steeped in history. But
our present’s just as exciting as our past. You can enjoy vintage shopping,
big-name brands, independent restaurants, a vibrant nightlife and arts scene,
sports and much more.
Essex Business School at our Southend Campus is located in the Gateway
building, featuring modern lecture theatres with panoramic sea views. Next door,
you find The Forum, an award winning £27m building with a library, interactive
teaching rooms, lecture theatres and a café. University of Essex students have
exclusive access to a 24-hour learning hub, complete with study spaces and
computer suites. Our Southend-based Careers Advisor is also on hand for support
with internships, placements and employment.
Location and accommodation
Our Southend Campus has everything you need to feel at home. As well as a GP,
dental practice and multi-faith chaplaincy, the Southend Students’ Union
provides advice and guidance. You can also grab a drink with friends in the SU
Lounge, complete with pool tables and a large-screen TV.
You study at a town centre campus in the heart of the seaside destination of
Southend-on-Sea. The town’s vibrant High Street is home to a wealth of quirky
independent boutiques and house-hold names, as well as a fantastic selection of
restaurants, bars and nightclubs. You are a short walk from award-winning
beaches, as well the world-famed pier and the Adventure Island theme park.
There’s also an active arts scene, with theatres, museums and music festivals.
The University Square
accommodation is just three minutes’ walk from Campus and features a
state-of-the-art gym and fitness studio. Prices start from £135.24 per week.
Southend Central Station is close by, taking you to London in just an hour
and providing excellent opportunities for networking and internships. London
Southend Airport also provides flights to a host of European cities.
