Future Networks Research Group
The Future Networks Group works on physical and network aspects of future
communications infrastructures.
- Its Photonic Networks
laboratory works on Optical Grid networking and optical packet
switched networks
-
Its Access Networks Laboratory works on future cost-effective broadband
access solutions, through advanced optical architectures and technologies
for high-speed broadband access, and through novel low-power access
technology
Current interests
- Seamless and bandwidth-unlimited collaborative networks and services
incorporating multiple technology domains
- A multi-layer network test-bed to match high capacity networks for diverse
user requirements
- All-optical processing at ultra high speeds circa 640Gbps
- PHOSPHORUS project, which is developing new hardware and software
environments to support high-performance scientific applications through
state-of-the-art optical networks.
