Research Projects
Sponsor a PhD student - organisations now have the
opportunity to access expertise and cutting-edge data that may not exist within
the company, or which may not be cost effective to develop in-house, through the
EPSRC CASE Research Studentship Scheme.
University-industry collaboration through EPSRC CASE Studentships
The School offers CASE studentships (Collaborative Awards
in Science and Engineering), funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences
Research Council (EPSRC) through our doctoral training collaborative training
accounts, as part of a scheme that allows industry to get involved with, and
benefit from, PhD projects supervised by leading University scientists and
engineers.
CASE studentships offer you the opportunity to have a
doctoral student work exclusively on a major research project that is relevant
and beneficial to your organisation, for up to four years, at minimal cost.
The PhD student is supported by both an academic and an
industrial supervisor and spends at least three months in your company. Your
organisation thus benefits from significant academic input and access to the
University’s resources and facilities.
The company is required to provide a cash contribution of a
minimum of 1/3rd the EPSRC contribution. This contribution is supplementary, ie
a top-up, to the EPSRC's award. This equates to a minimum of approximately
£23,000 over the duration of the project (correct for 2010-11).
If you are interested in sponsoring a student through this route, please
contact the Director of Research,
Professor Klaus McDonald-Maier.
