alumnus has produced translation app

Man Yat Lo, who completed his PhD in Computer Science this year, has produced a translation app called "ExTranslate" for use on both iPhone and androids.  There is a Chinese version and an English version.  Professor Edward Tsang has thoroughly tested the software and has written a review: http://www.bracil.net/edward/personal/opinions/TranslationSoftwares.html.  Here are some links to try the software yourself:

Intisar Al-Mejibli

We are pleased to announce that Intisar Al-Mejibli passed her viva.  Intisar’s thesis "Enhancing Service Discovery Performance Over Home Networks" investigates how the dropping of messages can be avoided during the service discovery phase of the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) protocol.  The key contributions of this work are: the development of a novel algorithm that is able of calculating the optimum transmission rate of service reply messages during the service discovery process; and the development of an adaptive algorithm capable of coping with changes in the network topology and the variations in the amount of background traffic.  Many thanks to the external examiner, Dr Eliane Bodanese from the Queen Mary, University of London and the internal examiner Professor Kun Yang.  Intisar was supervised by Dr Martin Colley.
