Research Assessment Exercise 2008
The UK government agency HEFCE ranks the research in all UK universities.
It happened in 2001, and now in 2008.
In the 2008 exercise, the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering
did very well, as this table shows!
| |
4* World Leading |
3* Internationally Excellent |
| Computer Science |
15% |
50% |
| Electronic Engineering |
20% |
40% |
The quality of research in the School has been confirmed in the 2008 national
Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). We were ranked 11th in the UK for Electrical
and Electronic Engineering where 60% of the research attracted the top 4* 'world
leading' or 3* 'internationally excellent' rating. Computer Science is ranked in
the top twenty under the 'research power' benchmark ('quality' and 'volume'),
with 65% of the research attracting the top 4* or 3* rating. This is a notable
achievement in such a highly competitive subject area. Overall CSEE submitted 42
staff and over 90% of all the work submitted was of international standard.
