Cultural life
Theatre
Our theatres host drama, dance, comedy and music events which are open to
the public. They are also a focus for workshops and school activities. We
have a theatre on each of our campuses – the freshly refurbished Lakeside
Theatre at our Colchester Campus, the newly created Clifftown Studios at our
Southend Campus and The Corbett Theatre at our Loughton Campus.
Art
Art Exchange, our art gallery at our Colchester Campus, is one of the
region’s leading galleries of contemporary art, showing the work of
internationally renowned artists, while also supporting emerging talent.
The Essex Collection of Art from Latin America (ESCALA) is the largest
public collection of its kind in Europe and is on display in the Albert
Sloman Library, the parkland around our Colchester Campus and firstsite, the
major new arts facility in Colchester.
We are also a key supporter of firstsite, Colchester’s inspirational new
centre for the visual arts, and supported the development of the
multi-million pound new facility from the outset.
