Job title: Head of Communications
Job details: Jenny is responsible for developing the University's media and public relations strategy, liaising with journalists, and promoting the University in the media. She also has responsibility for internal communication including Essex Daily and Essex Weekly. She is a member of the University's Events Management Team. Jenny joined the University in 2001, having previously worked as Head of Media and Public Relations for Essex Police. She has worked in public relations for 15 years, having originally trained and worked as a journalist in Essex.

Job title: PR and Media Officer
Job details:

Kate's main areas of responsibility are media relations and corporate publications. On a daily basis this means drafting and issuing press releases; liaising with the local and national media and setting up interviews. She has particular responsibility for the communications activities of the Faculty of Humanities. Kate joined the Communications Office in October 2001 after completing an MA in Art History at the University. Prior to that she studied Ancient History at Cardiff University.

Vicky Passingham

Vicky Passingham

Job title: Communications and Events Officer
Job details: As part of the Communications Team, Vicky has to write press releases and liaise with local and national media to raise the profile of the University. She also writes for the University's various communications channels including Essex Weekly and Essex Daily. She has particular responsibility for the communications activities of the Faculty of Science and Health. On the events side, Vicky has to help organise many University events including the Vice-Chancellor's Summer Reception and Graduation. Vicky joined the Communications Office in April 2009. Before that she worked as a local newspaper journalist for over 20 years.

Ben Hall

Ben Hall

Job title: Communications Officer
Job details:

Ben is involved in promoting the University of Essex at a local, regional and national level through securing positive media coverage. Responsibilities include writing press releases, proactively approaching journalists about potential stories and dealing with media queries. He also writes articles for Essex Weekly and Essex Daily. Ben joined the University in 2010 after working for 10 years as a journalist at local newspapers in Essex and at Emap in London. He has worked as a Deputy Editor, Web Editor, Community Editor, News Editor and Senior Reporter.

Holly Ward

Holly Ward

Job title: PR and Events Assistant
Job details: Holly is responsible for compiling and sending out the Daily Bulletin for our campuses and updating the 'What's on' web pages. She monitors the University's press coverage each day and circulates the Press Cuttings e-mail and undertakes general office duties such as monitoring budgets. Holly is also a member of the University's Events Management Team. Holly joined the Section in September 1996 and was the Section's External Relations and Events Officer. She then had a year's maternity leave and in June 2006, returned to work part-time in the Communications Office.
