The media plays a significant role in shaping public opinion. The
Communications Office actively seeks media coverage of the
University’s research, achievements and activities in order to develop
the University's reputation and profile in the national and regional
media.
The Communications Office writes and issues press releases (see
latest News Releases),
arranges broadcast interviews and media features, and is the first
point of contact for all media inquiries. It also publishes a
Directory of Experts, a
guide for the media on the range of expertise available at the
University.
The Communications Office also has a key role to play in managing
media interest if there is a potentially ‘bad news’ story about the
University.
The Communications Office would like to hear in advance from
departments, sections or centres about potentially interesting
research, events or activities. You can use the contact details on
this website or submit your news
using our web-based form. The Office subscribes to a database
containing up-to-date details of UK newspapers, general and special
interest journals, and broadcast media.
The Office can provide advice and guidance to members of staff
about speaking to the media (see our Tips for
Talking to the Media), or arrange media training if appropriate.
The Communications Office also collates media coverage of the University. To
view our daily electronic news service, see
Essex in the media.
If you require any assistance with a media-related issue, please
