Professor Mark Taylor and Tina Rampino from the Institute for Social and
Economic Research at the University of Essex found that youth
unemployment in young people (aged 11-15) rose from 10 percent to 20
percent between 1994 and 2010. It was also found that the proportion
of children with parents with positive attitudes to schooling who
wish to stay in the sixth form went up from 94% to 97% and the
proportion of young people who who wanted to go to university
increased from 84% to 86%. This percentage fell from 87% to 64% for
children wanting to continue to sixth form and from 78% to 46%
for children wishing to go to university when their parents had
negative attitudes towards schooling.
