Core / Compulsory Modules

Each year of study includes a core or compulsory module taken by all students on American Studies degree courses. These modules introduce students to the US through the disciplines of  history, literature, politics and sociology.  All the core modules are multidisciplinary and are common to all the undergraduate American Studies degree courses. Please note, students taking Criminology with American Studies do not take all of these modules, but additional modules from the Sociology department. For further details please see course structure.

Please note, you must pass the core modules in order to proceed to the next year of study.

You must also achieve an overall year mark of 53% in your first year in order to study abroad during your third year.
