Latin American Studies
Latin American Studies at the University of Essex was founded

and internationally. The various degree courses are
part of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in

richness of the Latin American continent and its

Latin American Studies degrees
We offer interdisciplinary degrees that
bring together language experts, lecturers and
researchers from the humanities and social sciences.
You will study with internationally recognised experts
in Latin American history, literature, and art who are
accessible and dedicated to undergraduate teaching.
We have developed strong academic and
cultural links with many universities in the Latin
American region
which receive our students on their Study Abroad year. Our
Latin American Studies degrees are designed to provide students with academic
and transferable skills to either further their
studies in the area, pursue a career in business
management or work with NGOs and related international
organisations in the area, pursue a career in business
management (see
Careers in Why Study LA?).

Facilities for Latin American Studies students
Here at Essex we are fortunate to have a very well
stocked library with one of the largest collections of
Latin American material in Europe. We also have a unique
asset: Essex Collection of
Art from Latin America which is a focal point for exhibitions, talks and conferences open to people inside and outside the university.
You can consult the
online catalogue and thanks to our collaboration
with firstsite, you can visit our research and exhibition space at the new Visual Arts Facility in Colchester.
The
Centre for Caribbean and Latin American Studies also
has a number of resources and organises events
throughout the year on the Colchester campus.
