About Us

University of Essex campusEuropean Studies at Essex encompass the whole of the "new" Europe, from Ireland to the Russian Far East.   European Studies schemes draw upon the full range of the University's excellence in teaching and research.

The Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence (JMECE) operates as Research Centres, providing a forum for pan-European research in the university, and a framework for obtaining grants and interdisciplinary research projects.

Members of academic staff are active in the social sciences, humanities, law - from commercial law to the protection of human rights - and the natural sciences, particularly the environmental sciences.
