European Studies
FIRST YEAR
Four modules comprising:
1.
CS102-4-FY Europe : Myth and Idea
2. Full module or two half modules from European
options
3. Language module OR further European option
in a different discipline
4. Outside option
N.B The four modules chosen must include at
least three different disciplines.
Options list
Pre-requisites for progression to second year:
- 40% in both exam and aggregate coursework/exam mark for each
European options (see 1 and 2 above)
- 40% in both coursework and exam for Language component or
further European option see (3 above)
- To participate in Study Abroad, students must achieve a year
mark of 53% or above in their first year of study.
- Important note: students who fail to achieve the required
53% will be unable to continue on a European Studies course.
N.B. Students planning to take CS831,
Dissertation module, in their final year are
strongly advised to take
CS241, Doing Research
for a BA Dissertation, in
the Spring term of their second year.
SECOND YEAR
Four modules at second year level comprising :
1. Full module or two half modules chosen from
European Option list
2. Full module or two half modules chosen from
European Option list in a different discipline.
3. Language module (Level 5 or above) OR further
European option
4. Outside option
Options

THIRD YEAR
To be spent following assessed modules at an
approved institution of higher education in the
country of the language studied in second year
OR at a partner institution where the language
of tuition is English. Choice of country,
university and modules for the Year Abroad is
subject to the approval of the Course Director.
The final year Dissertation will be optional and
discretionary, subject to the approval of the
Dissertation Coordinator or Course Director.
Students opting to write a Dissertation are
expected to do some reserach on their Dissertations during
the Year Abroad.
FINAL YEAR
Four modules at third year level comprising:
1. Full module or two half modules chosen from
European Option list
2. Full module or two half modules from European
Option list in a different discipline
3. Language module (Level 6 or above) OR further
European option
4. Discretionary Dissertation OR outside option
