Your career options

Graduate profiles

Leila Bow

Our graduates acquire an exceptionally diverse range of skills during their time at Essex and have entered a wide variety of industries. Their stories demonstrate the versatility of an interdisciplinary qualification.

Skills

Our graduates are articulate, confident, literate and cultured. They have learned to think and operate across disciplinary boundaries. The majority have spent a year studying abroad, enhancing their independence and understanding of foreign cultures. Many have learned a foreign language which is greatly valued by prospective employers.

Diverse career options

All of the courses that we offer are interdisciplinary and give you the opportunity to build your study from a wide array of modules offered by various schools and departments within our University. This means that your career options are incredibly diverse as you can study subjects that suit your goals. Many of our students uncover a passion for a subject they had not considered before during their time at Essex and go on to work in related fields.

Careers that our graduates have gone into include international relations, the civil service, journalism, public relations, BBC programme production, IT, banking, imports and exports, travel and tourism, translation, teaching, archaeology, anthropology, museology and the arts. Many go onto postgraduate study at universities around the world.
