My key geographical focus is on India, though my current roles involve
research on a variety of issues across the world.
Current roles:
· Ecocultures Programme:
I am research officer and coordinator for the Ecocultures Programme, set up
through the the University of Essex Global Challenges fund (http://www.essex.ac.uk/global_challenges/).
Working with the PI on the programme, Prof. Steffen Boehm (Essex Business
School), I coordinate the work of researchers across 7 University
departments and contributors from outside the University, provide general
administrative support, am developing and will maintain the project website
(forthcoming) and help develop the programme through grant proposals and
organising outreach activities (seminar series, project conference). I
currently lead two research groups within the programme ‘Agricultural
Ecocultures’ and ‘What are Ecocultures’. Details on these groups can be
found on the Ecocultures website.
· Research work on sustainable agriculture:
As research officer for the iCES, I work with Prof. Jules Pretty on various
research projects on sustainable agriculture, including the production of
various outputs for the UK Government Foresight Global Food and Farming
Futures Project, including:
· A major review on the role of wild foods in agricultural systems (Phil Trans R Soc Biol Sci
365: 2913–2926 Full text:

·
The production of a special issue of the International Journal of
Agricultural Sustainabilty (IJAS) on sustainable intensification of African
Agriculture (http://tinyurl.com/4yapt3z)
·
I recently completed my PhD thesis on the long-term impacts of watershed
development projects in Parner Taluka, India.
The thesis uses a mixed-methods approach to identify
the extent to which local residents in three study villages perceive
watershed development to have contributed to social-ecological resilience
over the past ten years.
Other:
I have developed and currently run a participatory study session for
students on the Masters in Environmental Governance, aimed at integration of
the various disciplines they are taught during the course and providing
general academic and career mentoring as required.
