interdisciplinary Centre for Environment and Society

The iCES is an interdisciplinary research centre that draws on the research and teaching expertise of internationally-renowned researchers across the University of Essex. These include the Dept of Biological Sciences, Dept of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, Dept of Economics, the Essex Business School, Dept of Government, School of Health and Human Sciences, School of Law, Dept of Literature Film and Theatre Studies, and Dept of Sociology. The iCES also has links with the associate Writtle College of Agriculture

The iCES runs or supports cross-departmental Masters programmes. It runs a regular Film Series and Seminar Series. It publishes an Occasional Paper series, and has published the Essex Guide to a Green Planet and Guide to a Healthy Planet.

Its Fellows are engaged in a wide range of cross-disciplinary environmental research. The geographic focus ranges from the local to national and international, and covers both industrialised and developing countries.

The Director of the iCES is Professor Jules Pretty OBE and the Assistant Directors are Rachel Hine and Professor Ian Colbeck

Tuesday, 23 March, 7.30pm at Lion Walk United Reform Church, Colchester

Join us for a workshop looking at the possibilities for Community-supported Agriculture (CSA) and buying groups in the Colchester area. After a presentation on the how's and why's of CSAs from Kirstin Glendinning of the Soil Association, and on buying groups (or food coops) from Gemma Sawyers of Sustain, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss in detail how you could get started straight away!
