Essex Sustainability Institute (formerly interdisciplinary Centre for Environment and Society)

The ESI is an interdisciplinary research centre that draws on the research and teaching expertise of internationally-renowned researchers across the University of Essex. These include the Dept of Biological Sciences, Dept of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, Dept of Economics, the Essex Business School, Dept of Government, School of Health and Human Sciences, School of Law, Dept of Literature Film and Theatre Studies, and Dept of Sociology. The ESI also has links with the associate Writtle College of Agriculture

The ESI runs or supports cross-departmental Masters programmes. It runs a regular Film Series and Seminar Series. It publishes an Occasional Paper series, and has published the Essex Guide to a Green Planet and Guide to a Healthy Planet.

Its Fellows are engaged in a wide range of cross-disciplinary environmental research. The geographic focus ranges from the local to national and international, and covers both industrialised and developing countries.

The Director of the ESI is Professor Steffen Boehm and the Assistant Directors are Rachel Bragg and Professor Ian Colbeck
