Careers and skills

Our courses have a direct correlation with professional applications, leading to enriched careers in this creative and exciting field, including refugee care, management studies, adult psychotherapy, and child and adolescent psychotherapy.

Most of our students are already professionals, clinical and non-clinical, who come to deepen their knowledge and academic understanding of their field and return to their existing fields after studying with us. Areas of work where our students are employed include:

  • psychotherapists,
  • psychologists and educational psychologists,
  • residential care workers and managers,
  • nursing,
  • primary school teachers,
  • University and higher education lecturers, and
  • counsellors.

These are in a wide variety of sectors, including organisations and companies such as:

  • British Refugees Company,
  • James Sear,
  • Anglia Ruskin University,
  • Medical Foundations for the Care of Victims of Torture,
  • Kingston Primary Care Trust,
  • National Health Service,
  • Schools,
  • Private/Self-employed practices

In addition to the various career paths, our graduates also continue in higher education by undertaking postgraduate studies, here at Essex or at other institutions, to continue to deepen their understanding of their chosen specialism.
