Individual research activities Individual research activities
Members of the centre have continued to be active in the field of research.
Three research activities, supported primarily by external funding (European
Commission FP-6, and British Academy) were carried out during 2009-10. One
relates to European security policy, the second to the evolution of German
politics, and the third to EU social policy; all three projects are
co-ordinated by Professor E. Kirchner.
·
The first seeks to assess regional and global security governance, which
have subsequently resulted in two publications. The first is an article on
“Sharing the Burden of Collective Security in the European Union” (October
2009). The second is an edited volume on National Security Cultures:
Patterns of Global Governance and comprises a comparative assessment of ten
countries in Europe, North America and Eurasia, which appeared in June 2010.
Funding for these projects was obtained from the Framework 6 Programme of
the European Commission for a Network of Excellence (dealing with global
governance), and from the British Academy. Prof. Dorussen and Prof. Kirchner
were primarily responsible for this research activity.
·
The second research activity is focused on an assessment of German politics
over a sixty year period, dealing cultural, social and political
developments. It involved collaborators from Europe and the United States
and appeared as a Special Issue of German Politics in March 2010. Prof.
Kirchner was the coordinator of this research.
·
The third research activity
deals with EU social policy developments and has resulted in annual
publications in The European
Communities Encyclopedia and Directory, London, Europa Publications.
