Study abroad

Study Abroad

We make it possible for you to undertake study abroad, either during your Essex course or by attending Essex whilst you are studying elsewhere. You will find study abroad extremely worthwhile and enjoyable, both socially and educationally.

Essex is one of the UK's most internationally diverse campus universities with students drawn from more than 130 countries. We have helped hundreds of students to study or work abroad as part of their course.

Keep an eye out for our annual Study and Work Abroad Fair later in the year.

Essex Abroad

With help from the University's Essex Abroad office we encourage all our students to add an international dimension to their studies and career plans.

  • Study Abroad: short-term, one-term or year-long exchange studies at a partner university, which provide academic credit towards your Essex degree.
  • Work Abroad: undertake a period of industry-based work placement abroad, for credit towards your Essex degree. This includes Teach Abroad for language assistants.
  • Volunteer Abroad: opportunities to spend a period of community development-oriented work abroad.
  • Research Abroad: undertake a period of research or project work, based either in a research lab/group or in the field, with supervision from a host organisation approved by Essex.

International careers

We can provide advice and guidance for students looking for international employment. Make use of our information and resources for job seeking outside the UK.

We organise specialised events during our international careers week and give you the chance to meet global employers in our employability events.

Bursaries

There are a number of funding opportunities available through Essex Abroad, and a wide range of scholarships and bursaries are offered by the university to support your studies.

Languages for All

Languages for All is available to all Essex students and lets you learn a language, at no extra cost, alongside your studies which can improve your chances of working in other countries.
