Information about your rights in the workplace, including details about the National Minimum Wage are available on the Directgov website and the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Advice on employment issues may also be sought from the Student's Union Advice Centre (login required).

Some employers ask for a CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) Check. so it's worth being aware of what this involves.

Information on Income tax, including understanding your tax code, is available online on the HM Revenue and Customs website.

The Students' Union Advice Centre on Square 3 should also be able to give you further information about income tax.

Getting tax back To help you work out whether you are entitled to receive a repayment on tax that you have paid then use the tax calculator.

For those aged 21 and over: £6.08 per hour
18-20: £4.98 per hour
Under 18: £3.68 per hour
