Skills For Success

Develop a wide range of skills

During your time at University you will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills.

While a good honours degree will set you on the path to graduate-level employment it is only one element of your graduate profile.

To ensure that you are successful after graduation you  will need to provide evidence of what we call employability skills (e.g. teamwork, initiative, communication and problem solving skills).

To help you develop your employability skills there are a number of opportunities available to you across campus. These include:

  • WORKskills afternoons - these will take place in the Spring Term and be scenario-based so there will be lots of doing and working in small groups to solve work-related problems

  • the WORKshop Series - 16 workshops that relate specifically to situations faced in the workplace. These workshops will take place in the Autumn and Spring Terms.

  • WORKskills online - a bank of online resources where you can complete skills based tutorials at a convenient time and place. These can be accessed from the link below

the WORKshop Series

Mirroring the professional development programme that is provided for staff, the WORKshop series is one opportunity you can’t afford to miss.  The workshops relate specifically to situations faced in a work environment, and the programme is designed so you can dip in and out of it as you wish.

In the Spring Term the following WORKshops are running:

  • Develop Your Presentation Skills

    • 21 January and 4 February

  • Discover the Art of Good Customer Care

    • 28 January and 18 February

  • Become a Skilled Negotiator

    • 11 February and 4 March

  • Learn How to Network

    • 25 February and 11 March
