Incubation Centre buildings have been provided through
public sector investment and debt
funding. Any surplus generated from the rental income is invested into the
provision of local
business support.
Companies apply to join the Incubation Centre and are selected on the basis of
their growth
potential. The Centre is not sector specific. Rent levels are set which, while
reflecting the
prime location and excellent facilities, offer the tenant companies an ideal,
flexible and
relatively inexpensive environment to grow their business.
The University gains through an increased focus on commercialisation and
entrepreneurship, research links with new companies, higher profile within the
local business community and a clear route for academic spinouts.
The University of Essex Business Incubation Centre also works closely with, the
Federation of
Small Businesses, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Essex Chambers, South Essex
College and other local organisations to provide business support services.
As with most BICs, the facility at Southend provides easy in/out tenancy agreements and inclusive rents that cover:

3.5 hours free meeting room hire per month
25% discount on conference and meeting room hire
