Internships
Our students and graduates can help boost your business
Your business could benefit from the skills, expertise and enthusiasm of
our students and graduates. They can help you with a specific project or
more generally with your busy workload.
At the same time you will be providing them with vital work experience
which will enable our students and graduates to secure that first important
step into the world of work.
We are looking for more companies, charities and community-based projects
to work with.
If you think your business could benefit, please contact us.
“We would not hesitate to use the internship programme again and I would
strongly recommend the service to everyone I know.”
Paul Wilkinson, Business Development Manager at Pacepacker
Services Ltd in Great Bardfield, Essex.
Student and graduate schemes at Essex
We have launched two schemes aimed at employers – the Student Placements
Scheme and Graduate Internships Scheme.
Both schemes are aimed at offering paid work experience to graduates and
students, unless the placement is a volunteering role for a charity or
community-based project.
Our schemes are organised by the University’s Careers Centre and follow
in the footsteps of the successful year-long Graduate Internships Scheme,
which placed more than 90 graduates in work with businesses throughout Essex
and Suffolk. The scheme led to nine of our graduates being offered permanent
positions after their internships, and eight being awarded continuing
contracts.
Business testimonials
Many of the businesses taking part in our schemes have ended up offering
permanent jobs to our graduates and feedback from local and national
employers has been excellent.
“The graduate internship was the best thing I have done for my business.
It has been a very good three months work.”
Anne Sheldon, owner of FunkyFilly equestrian accessories supplier
in Ipswich, Suffolk
Student feedback
Business Management graduate James Powell had an internship with Basetek,
an Ipswich-based company supplying parts and equipment to the international
offshore oil industry. The internship was so successful he was offered a
permanent position at the end of his internship.
James said: “It gives University of Essex students a much better chance
of getting a professional job when they leave university.”
