PhD studentships

PG funding

Postgraduate funding

We offer scholarships and bursaries to support talented postgraduates, ranging from research council studentships and University of Essex scholarships to awards funded by charities and other external organisations.

We regularly offer studentships for research students throughout the year. Unfortunately, we do not have any studentships available at the moment but when they are advertised you will find the relevant information on this page or you can contact us with any studentship enquiries.

What sort of studentships are offered?

Recently offered studentships included:

New method of studying protein-phospholipid complexes

The development, using a solution-based structural technique - NMR spectroscopy, of a method that enables the visualisation at the atomic level of lipid binding sites on soluble proteins. Funded by The Leverhulme Trust.

Shelf Sea Biogeochemistry

Conducted in partnership with the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS), Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) and the University of Southampton.

Environmental Microbiology

We worked in collaboration with Forest Research to offer a three-year NERC-CASE PhD studentship in Environmental Microbiology. This studentship involved sophisticated molecular biological and analytical techniques such as Q-RT-PCR,
next generation sequencing (metagenetics and metatranscriptomics) and
GC-FID which are well established in our School.
