Welcome to the School of Biological Sciences
"The School of Biological Sciences at Essex has a friendly, supportive
and lively environment with over 50 academic staff and 850 undergraduate and
postgraduate taught students. We provide research led, high quality teaching
over a wide spectrum of the biological sciences, with degree options ranging
from how molecules to how organisms interact with their environment offered
through 8 undergradualte BSc Degrees and 10 taught MSc programmes. Our teaching
and research laboratories have had major investment over recent years enabling
us to provide excellent facilities for our students.
The School of Biological Sciences has a strong research focus that
provides an excellent programme of research degrees from MSD to PhD. This is led
by the interests of the academic staff carrying out research of international
quality at the forefront of their respective fields. Our research addresses
major scientific issues in the areas of Environmental Biology, Marine and
Microbial Sciences, Plant Biology, Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Medicine and
Sports and Exercise Science. "
