C160 MMarBiol Integrated Masters in Marine Biology

This degree will give you a detailed understanding of marine and
freshwater biodiversity and ecology, the nature of threats to aquatic
systems and how these systems can be managed. You will also cover
applied marine and freshwater topics and be trained in practical
skills ranging from species identification to diving-based research
skills. On second and third year marine and coastal field courses you
will investigate marine biodiversity, develop skills in survey
techniques and participate in the optional subsidised tropical field
course. Specialised modules cover aquatic mammals and fish biology,
marine biodiversity, freshwater ecology, tropical marine ecology,
conservation, water pollution, coastal ecology, and evolution and
behaviour. Your individual research project allows you to develop your
interests; previous topics have included shellfisheries and water
quality, turtle ecology in Greece and coral reef conservation
strategies in the Caribbean and Indonesia.
