Opportunistic algal monitoring
We are currently undertaking opportunistic macroalgal cover (e.g. Ulva spp.) monitoring for the Environment Agency in several Essex estuaries. The work involves estimating total cover and sub-sampling areas to ascertain wet weight, entrainment and associated infauna. The work is a trial for the EA and the results feedback into UK assessments under the water Framework Directive.
