EBSI Annual Conference, 28th September 2012
The Essex Biomedical Sciences Institute (EBSI) was held on Friday 28th September in the Postgraduate Medical Centre, Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust (CHUFT).The afternoon began with a networking lunch and Welcome Address from Gordon Coutts, CEO of CHUFT and Nigel South, PVC of Academic Partnerships, UoE. The talks opened with a presentation by the Keynote Speaker, Mark Lowdell, Director of the Paul O’Gorman Laboratory of Cellular Therapeutics at the Royal Free Hospital, London. This was followed by presentations which highlighted successful ongoing collaborations between academics and clinicians in the EBSI and showcased emerging research areas where future collaborations could be formed. EBSI Annual Conference, 20th June 2011
The 2011 Essex Biomedical Sciences Institute (EBSI) Conference, was held at the Colchester Campus, University of Essex on Monday 20th June 2011. The afternoon began with a networking lunch and poster session and the afternoon’s talks, highlighted successful ongoing collaborations between academics and clinicians in the EBSI and showcased emerging research areas where future collaborations could be formed. The themed sessions were opened by esteemed speakers Prof Paul Matthews (Vice President Imaging and Head, GSK Clinical Imaging Centre, Hammersmith Hospital, London) and Prof Brendan Noble (Head of School of Science, Technology and Health, University Campus Suffolk).
First Annual EBSI Conference - 14th April 2010
This event highlighted successful ongoing collaborations between academics and clinicians in the EBSI, emerging research projects and new opportunities for collaboration. Speakers, from the University of Essex, NHS Trusts and Anglia Ruskin University, covered a wide range of topics. The event was a great success, with a large turnout of participants from both scientific and clinical backgrounds. Clinicians and representatives from regional clinical research networks expressed a keen interest to strengthen the link between research conducted at the University of Essex, and clinical activities and several new research projects will be pursued as a result of the meeting. As part of EBSI's commitment to engaging with the public, Dr. Beverley Wilkinson gave a presentation to the public outlining the work of EBSI for the 'Survival' session of 'What's around the Corner?', which was held at Colchester Library as part of the 2010 Essex Book Festival. REO/EBSI NHS Funding Event 'Roads to Joint Research'
The ‘Roads to Joint Research’ funding event, organised in collaboration with the Research and Enterprise Office, was held on the afternoon of the 24th March at the University of Essex. The event, opened by Dr. Elena Klenova (Director, EBSI), Dr. Tony Elston (Associate Director EBSI) and the University’s Dean of Health, Prof. John Clibbens, was building on a collaborative research event hosted by Colchester Hospital in September 2008. The day provided an opportunity for attendees to discover how to take their research ideas forward and for clinicians to meet with academics to forge links and establish networks to develop collaborative research projects. Presentations introduced different health research funding schemes supporting research focused on the needs of patients and the public. The attendees found the event very useful and informative.
