We've been catching up with our Angels@Essex alumni to find out how they found our programme, and to celebrate their successes.
We talked to Dr Chindu Kabir from Post Op AI. The Post Op AI team are developing a SaaS app that uses an advanced AI algorithm to improve patient-clinician post-operative communication and detect wound infections.
Initial goals
We have been working with Arun Muthirulan – a Lead Innovation and Growth Specialist from Innovate UK Edge. Arun and the Innovate UK Edge team told us about Angels@Essex. We felt very proud to be selected by Angels@Essex and to see Post Op AI on the platform.
Working with the team
I would like to thank John Stenhouse (Business Support Manager at Angels@Essex) and the team for helping us prepare the pitch deck and sharing their valuable time and feedback. The platform is a great idea and helps hugely in seeking investment. We enjoyed participating in the televised pitching event with Brit Asia TV in June last year. The event was well organised and helped increase the visibility of Post Op AI.
Angels@Essex addresses a big challenge for businesses based in the Eastern region seeking local investment, away from the innovation hub of that Cambridge has become. I truly appreciate the team's work and support. We found Essex very open and welcoming, which made us feel comfortable.
What we achieved
We have raised money from US and Dubai Angels and gained more traction in private sector sales than last year. Now, we are seeking a seed round of £2m. We are going to pitch at the Innovate UK pitch festival in Cambridge later this year. We are confident in our knowledge of the of the sector and that we have solution to present that works.
We plan to increase the size of our team and introduce Post Op AI to more hospitals. In eighteen months, our business will be in series A, which is all very exciting, but it is also a natural flow of progress.
I remember that two years ago, I was often told, 'No, it can't be done'. We heard that we would face obstacles at every stage of our journey. We created a product and gathered the proof of concept in a Midlands hospital. Even then people would still say that we need to secure our first contract, which was arduous. The feedback was continuously pessimistic.
We are now working on scaling up in the NHS, getting multiple contracts, entering the private sector, and planning to go global. Every time we prove that we can do it.
When I speak to investors or forums, I can say, 'Look at what we have done over the two years. In the eighteen months, this is where we are going to be. Are you on board?'
