Audio Visual Services (AVS) at Colchester campus
On the Colchester campus, AVS advises on the use of multimedia and audiovisual equipment. AVS will provide an assessment and evaluation of equipment and its use in teaching, assistance when purchasing equipment and instruction in the setup and use.
AVS provide audio visual equipment loan and installation services. AVS provide audio lecture recording, audio visual support and off-air recordings.
AVS is responsible for AV installation and maintenance in all teaching rooms on campus where any academic activity is performed.
Loan charges apply when the fee can be charged to an external source. Otherwise there is no charge for the loan of equipment used for University business.
How to book equipment
24hrs, office working time, in advance is required in order to make the best use of our resources. First come first served service applies.
If you are planning to run an event within campus please contact us for advice, just to ensure you produce the best quality with the minimum risk.
We are the first contact for advice related to acquisition of AV equipment for your department. We order it and recharge to your departmental charge code.
If you have an urgent need to borrow our equipment, we can loan it if:
- the equipment is available,
- your request does not interfere with bookings we already have
- the equipment is returned as soon as it is finished with and no later than 9.00 am the next day.
Equipment must be signed for and collected by a member of university staff from the AVS Service Counter located in the LTB foyer.
We do not deliver, setup or collect it. We do not accept a student (except those on the University payroll) to sign out equipment. Who sign the equipment out is bound to return it in same condition and term as when collected.
Other Services
AVS can record radio and TV broadcast programmes from terrestrial and Freeview transmissions. The Educational Recording Agency (ERA) regulates the way recorded material can be made and used. Please see their website here for more information.
